Welcome to The Lift Academy


The Academy was launched in 2007 to provide seminars for apprentices and trainees as it was recognised that, in general, seminar events normally involve senior managers and Directors from the industry rather than apprentices and trainees. As a result training relative to issues such as current standards, products etc are normally learnt in the field rather than in a controlled environment and very often information passed down was either incorrect or commercially biased

It was also acknowledged that companies wanted to contribute to training but a natural suspicion of the potential of competitor poaching caused by the way training is delivered in the UK meant that trainees and apprentices suffered from a lack of delivery rather than being encouraged to learn.

home_pic_2I, as Managing Director of leading lift & escalator consultants, LECS (UK) Ltd, brought together a number of like minded Directors of lift companies and with the assistance of Susan Terry of Global Lift Equipment acting as the Academy secretary started delivering seminars for apprentices every 3 months in London. The initiative grew from strength to strength and additional seminars were presented in Manchester. Further requests for seminars were received from other major UK cities including Glasgow and Newcastle with further requests being received from overseas and also from industry operatives other than trainees.

As a result I decided to move the Academy to a format where anyone could benefit at a time to suit themselves. This would also relieve the huge burden of time that was needed to be input by the Academy team who also have full time jobs!
